Anime Pacific Season 2; Episode 52

Download Episode 52 here.

This episode is essentially a tete-a-tete, all about the stuff that occured during our "holidays" as well as recent topics. Again, not a "traditional show"

"Putina!?"

See the original Negima!? opening:

Now, wouldn't the show be better if we replaced the central characters with prominent Russian leaders?

We also discuss Justin Sevakis' forum post regarding our good chum, Benu.

Alex has a laugh; yet the noble Dane, defends Benu.

Glad to see you are still listening, Mana! I must admit I LOVE Sam Hui songs, 半斤八兩 is my favourite; The lyrics are easy to grasp and it's cathy, so it's perfect for someone like me who is learning Cantonese. I actually spent a lot of the christmas holidays watching old Sam Hui films; That's how cool and hip I am.

Glad to have you with us Benopolis, I saw that you added us as a favourite on Digg, thanks!

I just checked the website for the survey, it says that survey results are updated in about 14 days. So...sorry about the whole...praying for your death thing!

But seriously, thanks to all who filled in the survey!

Well with news from Dane, that means that you guys don't have to fill out the survey again.

Now don't we feel silly for asking for people to do it in the last show!

I though the only Great Dane was Ron Dayne the NFL football player. He got that nickname from his college football days. Who knew.

I hope your feeling better Alex.

One thing I don't get is how you can get mad at Tranformers the movie for not having the same camera angles has Saving Private Ryan.

That’s like comparing Los Angeles Kings to the Detroit Red Wings. Their not even in the same league.

Maybe it would made more sense to compare Tranformers to another better Sci-fi film and not a great movie like Saving Private Ryan. Thats just not fair.

I think if you listen again, you will find, I was comparing the directors, which I think is completely fair.

What I was saying was that a different director would have shot the same action sequence very differently. All of Michael Bay's movie have the same type of fast-cutting, POV, middle-of-the action chaos. I can't stand it.

This is not an original thought btw.. it is a common complain about his movies from a lot of people like who who like to know what is going on in any given action sequence.

Just take a look at his wikipedia page (under visual trademarks).

I think Michael Bay thinks he's doing a Spielburg-esque shot, but I'd prefer to label Bay's style as "Private Ryan were it a music video".

While private Ryan's quick flashes and shaky steady cam were ment to show the chaos, violence, "blink and you're dead" urgency of the moment; they're not done for any cool effect and that's why they work.

Michaal Bay, on the other hand wants to inject music video-esque "coolness" into each chaotic shot. The result is up there on screen, for Alex, and a lot of other people, the result is usually in a barf bag due to motion sickness.

Thats the same reason why i dont like most newer animes and mangas. They want to have everything full of "coolness" wich just makes it stupid.
