Anime Pacific Episode 36: Tales from Asia: What becomes of the indecently exposed?

Download Episode 36 here.

Pretty much, next to nothing Anime related this week, as we bring back our most popular segment, Tales From Asia.

Shootin' The Breeze

Alex discusses a highly amusing advertisement.

We also discuss Star Wars, ever so briefly. Which is not really relevant, as I'm always right and thus there should be no point with arguing about anything.

Yet another amusing Japanese prank:

Wait a minute, Mr Postman!

We get another fantastic e-mail from Letseatcake and discuss the large amount of buzz in both the comments section and the e-mails that we receive pertaining to Alex's
future. (Hong Kong? Japan? Canada? Barbados?)

Alex finally sets the record straight about what exactly is going on and the decisions behind his actions. Believe me when I say he sets the record straight.

Tales from Asia

Bonus:Warning: Two of the first tales involve my penis in some way.

We discuss the dangers of using webcams, what happens when your students urinate and defecate in inappropriate places and two brothers who enjoy inflicting pain on each other so that they can record it and mock them when the recording is played back; much to our amusement.

Next week, I'll be back in Hong Kong and Alex may or may not know his next step.

Until then!

I'm learning more about blogspot day by day, I thought this thing would kindly wait until Sunday to post the darn thing ;>

Alex said...

HA! I knew it wouldn't work.

Root Beer King said...

You guys are putting podcasts out like fast karate now! haha, what a nice surprise! Gotta love Blog Spot not waiting*wink*.

Alex said...

yah well, that means a longer wait for the next episode though.

Root Beer King said...

I don't really mind the longer wait. My sunday Podcast listening is big enough as it is.

I actually wouldn't mind if you folks put out shows in the middle of the week more often.

Bo said...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! 'AKA' Do not want!

Alex said...

We release the show on Sunday because we have free time on Saturday to record, and Dane has enough time to edit.

I guess other podcasts are the same.

I laughed so hard at Alex's "It’s like sleeping in a cone of Silence!" line that I just had to turn it into an image:

Also I gotta agree with you Dane, Alex should quit whining about Japan's dieing population and start making some babies!
As that one sperm donor said "I don't feel I'm the father to those kids... I only provided an ingredient."
So Yes, get out there Alex and provide your ingredient to the Japanese ladies!

Good episode, always nice to hear myself quoted.

And as im now declared a queer i might as well confess that i to am a Kevin Sorbo fan.

So much that i have watched the episode of "Murder she wrote" that he starred in... Twice.

Also, something thats bean eating me for awhile is Alex pronounciation of his name. Like Thorbo instead of Sorbo. Now this wouldnt bother me if it wasnt for the fact that his microphone cant really get what he says and it sounds more like THhhhhh*crack, fwish, wooo*Orbo.

About the Baoh OVA not being well recieved, if that is true, i can see why it would be. They did do some pretty extensive trimming of the story. And while this is the case will all short OVAs like this. For Baoh, they cut out the awesomest villian in the story. Sure he might not have been crucial to the story. But i thought they could have removed the rest and just made a movie about that guy.
Now for those people who havnt read the Baoh manga i will try to explain who that villian is.

First of all, he looks kinda like an acrobatic mummy with a whip.
When he cracks the whip he summons a gigantic baboon called martin.
This ofcourse is no ordinary giant baboob. It looks more like a vampire zombie baboon from hell.
Other than having a strange fetish from killing small children by throwing steel pipes at them. It also shoots a grapling hook from its mouth that it uses both as a weapon and to swing around with.

And i guess that was it, nothing really special about him. But as i said. He should have gotten a movie all for himself :P

Hahahaha you've learned our secret, Anime pacific is sponsored by almost every earplug conglomerate in existence.

I must say I'm intrigued! Has Baoh been scanlated? I know the OVA has been out, like forever.

Oh man, I'm totally onto this, look at those gorgeous 80's designs!

I have Kevin Sorbo AND Michael Hurst (Ioalas from Hercules) Autograph framed!

Bo said...

This site has the scanlations. (or actually, it might be scans of the old american releases)

http://jojo.highervoltage.net/

I offcource own the books. ;)
I was kinda lucky to find em. as its an old out of print series... And i live in sweden :P

Funnily enough, I just came across that link today, at 4chan of all places! Superb! They have Baoh and all!

Bo said...

Eeew 4chan. Now there is one thing i dont agree with you on :p
Terrible site.

Dane Scaysbrook said...

Well...I never actually said I liked 4Chan, most of it's in terrible taste , I agree, I usually browse it for the anigif section which is equally tasteless but an occasional golden anigif will turn up.

I'm relatively afraid to press any of the other sections as even in the "Sexy beautiful woman" section, some troll will post something disgusting.

Bo said...

Only thing i like about 4chan. Is the fact that they will probably be the only thing making sure the jojo manga sells well enough to continue to be published in america.

Anigif section. I visited that place just a week or so ago. First thing i see is a woman giving a horse a blowjob O_o

Just a note in history, I've offically watched all of Gainax's anime(well all the ones I could get my hands on, which was like all but 3 OVAs), expect for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia, and Kare Kano(I plan to watch them soon though!)

Dane Scaysbrook said...

Back in Hong Kong, finally. I was in Vietnam for a few days, with a rather interesting "Tales from Asia" about some certain events that happened!

I haven't heard from Alex, so by next episode we'll know whether he'll be going to Hong Kong, Japan or Canada.

...Yes, very exciting!

Ahh yes, the horse blowjob. Whilst containing some classics, it's also the most dangerous area of 4Chan, and that's saying a lot!

Hey, Jake which 3 OVA's of Gainax's haven't you seen?

Bo said...

Im really amazed at how many tales from asia you guys can come up with. And they are all very entertaining to listen to.

Makes you think asia is actually a fun place to live in =P

Root Beer King said...

The 3 OVA's I couldn't find were "Money Wars", "Beat Shot", "Circuit no Ohkami 2 Modena no Tsurugi", and now that I look again I couldn't find "KO Seiki Beast Sanjuushi" either.

Dane Scaysbrook said...

Thanks ZT! There's ALWAYS something going on in Asia. I think that's why it's so easy to recall "Tales from Asia", we're living them everyday! It's certainly a vibrant place!

There could be bootlegs of those anime around, Jake. I'll have a look, as much as I hate bootlegs! But I figured, if I find obscure anime that isn't online via bootlegs and put it online myself, that's minus one for the bootleggers!

Root Beer King said...

Yeah, I'd love to see Money Wars, that one sounds like it might be pretty good.

Bo said...

Did you review Cyber City Oedo? Cant remember, but if it was. Big thanks. Its now my favourite ova.

ZT

Bo said...

Hmm, that was some weird grammar right there. But i think i got my message across even tho i sent it alittle to quick :P

Bo said...

Just watched the highlander anime. It was good to. definately better than all the other sequels. Even tho this wasnt really a sequel. Maybe thats a good thing.

Dane Scaysbrook said...

Yes, I reviewed Cyber City Oedo quite a while ago, and I'm very glad I could introduce at least one person to it! I'm glad you loved it, it's definitely a Kawajiri classic.

The "director's cut" of Highlander should be fantastic also, which should be coming out in Japan very soon, if it isn't already out. I'm not sure about a release overseas, however.

Bo said...

why does all the highlander movies need directors cuts?
The original highlander 2 was hillarious with their overly sci-fi explanation of the higlanders :p
Highlander 4 endgame to. I havnt seen the original as that aint avaible over here. But according to the trailer on my dvd it was originaly a real "so bad its good" movie. With all the strange magic and stuff.

I am trying to check out all the animes you recomend with four stars. Except perhaps rape-man, i dont see how you could give that one four stars =P

ZT

Dane Scaysbrook said...

Ahhhhhhhhhhh I never gave Rapeman 4 stars! Alex believes it's champagne comedy to credit me for giving that title 4 stars!

A little side note, there's actually a relatively popular Rapeman live action OVA series. Well, there's not any more... The lead star; Rapeman himself, killed himself recently. :(

The director's cut of the Highlander anime contains the version that Kawajiri preferred. He wasn't very happy with the final cut, apparently. I think what was cut only amounts to about 7 minutes.

Unfortunately, what has plagued the franchise over the years has been studio intervention. Highlander the anime, by comparison, probably suffered the least intervention of any highlander film, at least since the first.

I actually loved Endgame, but I have only seen the recut which corrected a lot of issues that fans have (ie. killing people on holy ground etc..)

Bo said...

Killing people on holy ground? In the trailer i could see much more rediculous stuff. Like a person getting cut in half and becoming two people :P

Also on another note. I-O released two chapters of madbull 34 just the other day.
If their still scanlating. Then why dont they fix their own site?

ZT

Dane Scaysbrook said...

Mad Bull is still being Scanlated? Why, that's the best news I've heard in a long time! Fantastic!

The most ridiculous thing, is that the "cutting in half scene" was only ever put into the trailer, but not the film itself. Why on earth would the production company put something like that in their own trailer that would not only alienate the fans, but not end up in the film anyway?

Bo said...

So it isnt in the original cut of the movie? :o

ZT

Bo said...

Oh man, the next episode is takeing ages... Well, not really :P

I just hope it wont be late.

Dane Scaysbrook said...

It should be right on schedule! I'll be uprading my computer today also, which is rather exciting for me!
