Episode 11: Snarky & Hutch

Download Episode 11 Here

Greetings! Alex is still in Canada, so his audio is not what it normally is. I could hear him call the Anime Pacific Theme Song "A Gay porno wannabe", however.

It certainly is one of our longer episodes, just clocking in under 100 minutes.

If you haven't listened to our "guest spot" on the always great Anime-Genesis' podcast, check out part one here.

News

Apologies again for the uneven audio, Alex's connection and microphone leave a lot to be desired!

Things we talked about:

Dane's new garage kit hobby

Alex thought Dane had this one (he wishes) but in fact, he has this one.

Appleseed 2 on the way.

"meh".

Dororo at Number # 1 for 4 weeks. Trilogy planned.

Check out not only the trailer, but also the pilot of the TV anime adaptation of the 60's!

Monthly Shounen Jump to be suspended

People see the words Shounen, jump & suspended and start crapping their pants. Bear in mind that this MONTHLY Shounen Jump. When Kekko Kamen is one of your magazine's most prestigious titles, you're in trouble!

Japxploitation Mini Review: Zero Woman

Warning: This Video Is NOT Safe For Work

Alex, finally does some sort of a review. Not 100% anime related, but certainly Pacific related, and this is Anime Pacific.

Alex also throws in an amusing 100% anime/pacific non related tale on how to tell your kids about the birds & the bees.

Review: Appleseed (The 2004 Anime Film)

Reviewing certainly isn't as easy as you think. Well ok, it's dead simple to review something you love, even easier to review something you hate. But when you have to make a review about something that screams mediocraty, it aint easy. Dane's um's and fumbling: Case in point.

Anime Person Of The Week: Go Nagai

Though these days, he might be associated with retro Looking characters and irreverant, ecchi comedies, his body of work and the impact that they have made on the anime & manga industry as a whole, put him in the top 10 most influential figures in the shaping of the modern anime industry. He can be attributed to the creation and/or proliferation of the "Magical Girl", "Mecha" and "Post apocolyptic" genres that have become a staple in Anime ever since.

Devil Man Opening for the TV show of the 70's

Wrap-up

Our longest wrapup ever. We read another letter we got from someone called Monolith. This prompts us to talk a little bit more about what our podcast is about. I actually owe quite a bit of thanks to this person, as he/she's given me a great idea. More to come!

Until then, ta-ta!

Episode 10: No Robot Voices Here Folks!

Download Episode 10

As much as we love Robot Voices......

Double Digits, can you believe it!?

Probably our shortest episode to date, not to mention our latest. Chinese New Year happened people, I was a busy lad!

Audio is a bit strange, Alex's microphone isn't too hot. He's in Canada right now visiting his parents.

Introduction

We talk about our "guest spot" on Anime Genesis, we had an absolute ball doing it. Alex wanted to heaten things up so he whined about the pronunciation with DuoMatrix, bless her patient heart!

We also discuss what we think are the Do's & Donts' of Podcasts. (Dane listened to one recently who thought it was champagne comedy to talk about bowel movements in graphic detail). This discussion brings us to our first promo:

Blood, Crack & Anime

Inbetween balancing her time between kindergarten, teletubbies and the toils of life, OneSin also manages an occasional podcast.

Our good chum, Jake the rootbeer king, recommended Harrison Ford for the part of Solid Snake.

Sorry Jake, we don't quite agree on this one! Actually, Dane found an article stating that Snake was in fact based off Kurt Russell(!)

Though, Dane said that if they were to make a movie about Alex, he would nominated Rick Moranis, hands down.

Dane explains Chinese new year a little bit in depth.

News

Japanese Empire Rising Again?

Doesn't this image put a shiver down your spine?

Meet pickles, the lovable Japanese Military Propoganda Mascot. Here to tell fellow Japanese that the military is your friend.

See how Sanrio has changed the people who once slit their own bellies?

Japan: War has never been so cute!

Alex found these doozies in a military forum of all things.

Freedom Episode 2 To be streamed online for free! (Until tommorow)

Hurry up! Yahoo Japan is streaming it, oh...Too late almost.

Afro Samurai Director & Creator at a screening in New York

Don't know how it went in the end, hopefully he was heckled out of there.

Promo: Up A Paddle

We're kind of stuck in a loop here. Neither of us has the heart to stop what is now a counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter- shoutout!

Anime Person Of The Week: Osamu Dezaki

Hail to one of the greatest director's in Anime; Osamu Dezaki.

Check out the Blackjack trailer, that's Dezaki all the way. Those shiny city lights that seem to fly in the sky, the dark rooms, and Dezaki's patented potrait freeze-frame.

PLEASE Check out the starting and ESPECIALLY the ending scene to the classic, Space Adventure Cobra. This is CLASSIC Dezaki.

Ashita No Joe, no boxing anime would have followed without it.

Closing

Alex's mother was poking him with a broom to hurry into bed, (it was way past 7:30 ! ) So we ended rather quickly.

Until next week, my dears!

Episode 9: It's a nerd, It's a Dane....No...It's RAPEMAN!

Download Episode 9

Champagne comedy all the way folks. Not much news this week, but we make up for it by reviewing the infamous title, "Rapeman".

Shootin' the breeze

Alex is actually in Canada this week, and has a rather blantantly sexist yet amusing tale within. Dane in turn, discusses a funny story about when he was stalking someone.

We bitch about the state of the internet in Canada & Australia.

Non Anime related Alert: A Great mod for HL2 has a huge update: Battlegrounds (our fav mod!) http://www.bgmod.com

News

We read another letter from our jolly nice fan, Jake "The Root beer King".

We bitch about what we like to call, "Cultural extortion". This phenomenon involves beefing the prices up 50% during times when people are culturally obligated to buy things for they're loved ones. (Such as Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day).

The price of the Wii went up almost $100 US dollars during the Chinese New Year Period, Dane is pissed.

Live Action Gatchaman set for 2008 release

Alex risks a flame attack and hopes the villain isn't a "dickgirl" like in the original Japanese cut.

Will it be cool? Will it be campy?

Will it have the original theme song?

I think the singer of the original song, died busting his colon while singing that song. Sounds like he's going to explode!

Metal Gear Solid To become a Hollywood live Action Film!

At least we don't have to complain about this being whitewashed, most of the characters aren't Asian anyway.

Who would make a great solid snake?

Dane says Kurt Russell, hands down:

Alex insists on Willem Defoe:

But knowing Hollywood, they'll do the opposite of what we want:

Haruhi Suzumiya Dub Cast Announced

Speaking honestly, we don't know much about US Dub Actors.

Autopsy/Review: Rapeman

This lovely Miyazaki film is a cautionary tale about how females will be led astray unless a loving parent hires a rapist to rehabilitate them.

Honestly how can one review such a title? Well, we don't try. This is more of an autopsy than a review.

Click here to see Rapeman's epic pose

We'll see you next week my pretties!

Episode 8: Alex; The Fugitive

Download Episode 8

Introduction

Dane channels his "inner Mexican". Alex channels his "outer nerdy social outsider" by lamenting that most of his time next to his wife involves thinking about his next turn of "Europa Universalis III".

Breaking News: One of the Kano sisters has aged terribly, hooters not as good as before.

Former Miss Nippl... *ahem* Miss Nippon has aged terribly according to Alex. See the before and after shots below.

Alex recalls some interesting tales about dating and the social scene in Japan.

Incidently, welcome to our new segment! Anime-Pacific Personals.

We also read out our first fan letter! Hopefully not our last. A shout-out to Jake "The Root Beer King" who found us via Anime-Pulse. (Thanks for running our promo again Anime-Pulse, we love you!)

We kind of discuss about other new podcasts that come and go and don't last long (hopefully we're not in that category).

We also discuss how it does seem like most of a podcaster's audience is in fact, other podcasters. (Which coincidently, Kentcer at Up a paddle mentioned the same thing).

25:30 Promo R5 Central

Every time I listen to R5 Central and it's podcasts, I think poor Mike Dent must collapse from exhaustion at the end of each recording. Great stuff!

27:10 Up A Paddle

A Counter-Counter shoutout to Up A Paddle, our leading source of geek news!

24:40 News

We discuss the Futurama & Simpsons "Anime style" pictures (check 2 posts below to have a look) Apparently the artist has been contacted by 20th Century Fox about doing something on the revival of Futurama, good stuff!

Gedoh Senki won the Razzie! Yet was Japan's highest grossing film of 2006

Though it was here in Hong Kong, I have yet to see it. Opinions are mixed on this one, and all news articles about this contradict each other. Still, it wouldn't be the first hit to suck. (Ie. Titanic!!)

Rozen Maiden Manga Suspended

Strange, since Rozen Maiden merchandise is all over Hong Kong, but there you are!

Mushishi Live Action makes waves at Sundance

English name is...Bugmaster. I choose you Mushishi-Chu! Katsuhiro Otomo directs! (yay!) Mushishi was one of Dane's favourite Anime of 2006 so he's looking forward to this one!

Check out the trailer!

48:20 Promo: Anime Pulse

Thanks for bringing us some more listeners guys! :)

49:00 Review: Arashi No Yoru Ni (One Stormy Night)

What a gem this turned out to be, I first noticed this when it opened theatrically in Hong Kong and got quite a bit of notice there. I LOVED it, yet there was not a tentacle to be sighted!

You can get the fansub of this wonderful title here:

Ayu-Anime

59:40 If you know this song, I think I love you

1:01:00 - 1:12:56 Wrap-Up

Alex & Dane discuss English chains in Asia, (Mostly Japan's NOVA, in which 6 English teachers got busted for drug possesion).

Let's bitch about Sony

I had both a PS1 & a PS2, but I don't seem to have such a hard on over the PS3, quite possibly because I've grown to hate Sony over the years (The Lik-Sang incident is but one reason) Kentcer informed us that Sony just decided to Raise the PS3 by $50 in Canada.

Dane also mentions the Wii Modchip thats on the way (Import gamers rejoice!)

Wii-Key

I DO support the Wii, because while it may have the lowest specs, it's the only console that seems truly "revolutionary" to me.

No anime person of the week this time, I've got a massive flu and feel like poo.
So, until next week.

And remember We love you!
